Llangollen Railway Launches Afternoon Tea With Stunning Platform 2 Views

Llangollen Railway has launched a new Afternoon Tea experience, giving visitors the chance to dine in a restored heritage carriage overlooking some of the town’s best-known views.

The new “Afternoon Tea on Platform 2” experience is being offered this season aboard a stationary carriage at Llangollen Railway, with views across the River Dee, the historic bridge, the Corn Mill and the ruins of Castell Dinas Brân.

The experience will run every Thursday and Friday from 1pm until 3pm, offering a lower-cost alternative to the railway’s popular travelling Afternoon Tea services.

Although the carriage remains in the station, guests will still be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the heritage railway while sitting in one of Llangollen’s most scenic locations.

The Afternoon Tea includes:

• A selection of freshly made sandwiches

• Freshly baked fruit scones with jam and clotted cream

• An assortment of freshly made cakes and sweet treats

• Tea or coffee served at your table

• Optional sparkling wine upgrade

Prices have been designed to make the experience accessible for all:

• Adults: £25 per person

• Children: £10 per child

Additional treats can also be added:

• Extra scone — £2

• Extra cakes — £5

• Extra sandwiches — £5

The railway says the experience is suitable for friends, families, celebrations or anyone looking for an afternoon beside the river. Visitors can also combine the Platform 2 Afternoon Tea with a journey on one of Llangollen Railway’s services through the Dee Valley.

Jordan Edge, Catering Manager at Llangollen Railway, said:

“Our travelling Afternoon Tea trains have become incredibly popular, but we wanted to create something equally special at a lower price point. Platform 2 offers what we believe is the very best view in Llangollen, so it felt like the perfect place to launch this new experience. You can sit back, relax and enjoy freshly made food while looking out across the River Dee, the bridge, the Corn Mill and Castell Dinas Brân. Honestly, with scenery like that, why would you want to move?”

Booking is recommended and can be done via this link.
