Man sought over train graffiti attacks in Paignton and Plymouth
British Transport Police are appealing for help to identify a man in connection with two separate incidents involving graffiti and trespass on the railway in Devon, which have caused significant disruption and damage.
Officers say the first incident took place at Paignton railway station at around 8.15pm on Tuesday 23 December. A train had stopped at the opposite platform when a man climbed down onto the track, sprayed graffiti on the carriage, then scrambled back onto the platform before fleeing the station.
Investigators are also linking the same individual to a further incident at a train depot in Plymouth on Christmas Day, where several carriages were targeted and covered in graffiti. Police say the combined damage from both incidents is expected to cost the train operator thousands of pounds to repair.
British Transport Police have now released images of a man they would like to speak to, believing he may have information that could assist with their enquiries. Officers have stressed that graffiti attacks not only cause financial damage but also remove trains from service, creating wider disruption across the rail network.
Police have also highlighted the serious risks involved, noting that such incidents often require trespassing onto live railway lines, where there is a danger from passing trains and electrified equipment.
Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 614 of 23 December. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
