Overhead Wire Damage Brings Rail Chaos Between Wolverhampton and Stafford

Major rail disruption is affecting services through the West Midlands after damage to overhead electric wires between Wolverhampton and Stafford blocked all lines.

No trains are currently able to run between Wolverhampton and Stafford, with services being cancelled, diverted or revised while engineers work to resolve the issue.

Avanti have posted the following on X:

Due to damage to the overhead electrical wires between Wolverhampton and Stafford, all lines are blocked.

The disruption is impacting several major operators and routes, including:

• Avanti West Coast services between London Euston station and Crewe / Glasgow Central station
• CrossCountry routes between Paignton / Bournemouth / Southampton Central railway station / Bristol Temple Meads railway station / Birmingham New Street station and Manchester Piccadilly station
• London Northwestern Railway services between Liverpool Lime Street station and Birmingham New Street

Passengers are being warned that major disruption is expected to continue until around 20:00.

Ticket acceptance has been arranged on a number of alternative routes and operators, while rail replacement transport is also being sourced where possible. Passengers are being advised to check before travelling as arrangements may change at short notice.
