East Coast Main Line Disruption After Alnmouth Signal Fault

Rail passengers travelling between Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh are facing disruption after a signalling fault near Alnmouth railway station blocked some lines on the East Coast Main Line.

The issue means fewer TransPennine Express services are able to operate along the route, with cancellations expected throughout the day. The disruption is also causing delays to London North Eastern Railway services.

Network Rail engineers are currently at the scene attempting to repair the fault, with disruption expected to continue until the end of the day.

Ticket acceptance has been arranged on services operated by LNER, Northern and ScotRail where routes overlap with affected TransPennine Express journeys.

Passengers travelling to or from Reston railway station are being particularly impacted, as the station is only served by TransPennine Express trains. It is possible that no services will call there for the remainder of the day.

Travellers at Reston have been advised to use the station help point for onward road transport information, while passengers at Berwick-upon-Tweed railway station are being told to speak with station staff regarding replacement transport options to Reston.
