Storm Goretti’s impact continues with rail lines still closed across UK
Severe weather from Storm Goretti continues to disrupt railway services across parts of the UK, with several lines remaining closed and alternative travel arrangements in place where possible. Passengers are advised to check with their operators before travelling.
The route between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton remains suspended today, with trains either cancelled or operating on shortened journeys. Normal service is expected to resume tomorrow, Sunday 11 January.
Strong winds across South West England have caused damage to signalling equipment and brought down numerous trees. As a result, all services between Par and Newquay are cancelled, with disruption expected through the day. Similarly, the line between Truro and Falmouth Docks remains closed, with no services able to run.
In Wales, heavy snowfall has forced Network Rail to close the Heart of Wales line between Shrewsbury and Llanelli. Inspections revealed fallen trees and downed power lines blocking the tracks. Transport for Wales has stated that rail replacement buses cannot operate due to treacherous road conditions, leaving no alternative transport along the route today.
Passengers are reminded that some rail replacement buses and ticket acceptance on other routes may be available, but they should confirm arrangements with their train operator in advance.
