Swiggy delivery partner survives fall from moving train in Andhra Pradesh
A video showing a Swiggy delivery partner narrowly avoiding a serious accident on a moving train has gone viral, sparking renewed debate over the safety of gig workers. The incident took place at Anantapur railway station in Andhra Pradesh on the night of 6 January, highlighting the risks faced by delivery personnel under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
The footage, shared on Instagram by user Bijay Anand, shows the delivery agent losing his balance while trying to disembark from a moving train after handing over an order. His urgent attempt to keep up with other deliveries ended in a fall, though he survived.
Bijay Anand said:
“The halt was only 1-2 minutes. The passenger was in 1st AC which has multiple doors and by the time the food was handed over, the train had already started. The delivery partner had to get down because he had other orders to deliver and his bike and food bag were outside the station. This is not an accident - it's a failure of safety and responsibility. The desperation to deliver orders could have claimed his life.”
The train involved was the Prashanti Express, number 18464, and Anand called for both support and compensation for the injured delivery worker, highlighting the extreme pressures placed on gig economy employees.
In a follow-up post on 8 January, Anand reported that he had contacted Anantapur MLA Daggupati Venkateswara Prasad and confirmed that the delivery partner was safe. He added:
“He has multiple injuries on his body, yet he was polite, calm, and sincere - no complaints, no anger. Just a man trying to do his job.”
Anand urged Swiggy to provide appropriate compensation, noting that the agent had risked his life to avoid being penalised for late delivery, only to end up paying a ₹3,000 fine for violating railway rules.
