Train Hits Tree Between Charlton And Woolwich Dockyard As Lines Blocked

Passengers travelling between Charlton and Woolwich Dockyard are facing major disruption after a train hit a tree and became unable to continue its journey.

Both lines are currently blocked while the driver checks the train for possible damage. Services through the area are being cancelled, severely delayed or revised as a result.

The disruption is affecting Southeastern services between London Cannon Street and Slade Green or Dartford, as well as London Cannon Street circular services.

Thameslink services between Luton and Rainham in Kent are also affected.

Passengers are currently being advised that tickets can be used at no extra cost on London Buses between London and Dartford.

Thameslink services running between Luton, London Bridge, Gillingham and Rainham are expected to terminate at different stations than usual. Some services are expected to terminate at London Bridge, Deptford or Dartford, meaning a number of stations will not be served.

Passengers travelling between Dartford and Rainham will need to use an alternative route and should allow at least an extra 30 minutes to complete their journey.

Ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements can change or be withdrawn at short notice, so passengers are advised to check with their operator before travelling.

The train that hit the tree near Charlton has now been able to get on the move. Both lines are still blocked, while response staff make a safety inspection of the tracks. Services will continue to be diverted via Bexleyheath or Sidcup.

Major disruption is currently expected to continue until 15:00.
