Bolton–Preston Line Closed as Emergency Services Deal with Incident

Rail services between Bolton and Preston have been suspended while emergency services respond to an incident on the line.

All routes through the affected section are currently blocked, meaning trains are unable to run in either direction while the situation is dealt with. Operators have warned that services passing through the area are likely to face cancellations, alterations or delays of up to an hour.

Avanti West Coast services between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston are diverting between Bolton and Preston today due to engineering work so these services are also facing disruption.

Passengers travelling on this route are being advised to expect disruption and to check before setting off, as services may not run as planned.

Road transport has been requested to operate between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston in both directions and operators that use this stretch of line have arranged ticket acceptance to help passengers complete their journey. Any ticket acceptance or alternative arrangements can be withdrawn at short notice, always check with your operator before travelling.

Disruption is expected to continue until at least 16:00.
