Portsmouth Rail Shutdown After Person Hit by Train

Portsmouth Rail Shutdown After Person Hit by Train

Rail services in the Portsmouth & Southsea area have been suspended after a person was struck by a train, with emergency services attending the scene.

All routes in and out of Portsmouth have been closed to allow teams safe access, meaning trains are currently unable to run through the affected area. Services are being cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or altered, with some starting or terminating at different stations.

To support the response, power to the railway in the affected section has been switched off, preventing any train movements while emergency teams carry out their work.

Passengers travelling with Great Western Railway, South Western Railway and Southern Railway are being advised to check before they travel, as timetables have been revised and ticket acceptance has been arranged across alternative routes. However, these arrangements may change at short notice.

At this stage, there is no confirmed time for when the line will reopen, with response teams still dealing with the incident.

Major disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.
