Sussex Rail Disruption: Power Failure Closes Line Towards Brighton

Rail services along the Sussex coast were disrupted after a failure of the electricity supply between Barnham and Worthing, though the issue has now been resolved.

The fault led to the closure of the line towards Brighton and caused knock-on disruption across routes linking Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour with Brighton, as well as services between Littlehampton and London Victoria.

The problem was traced to the Angmering area, where a power supply issue affected train operations. Southern Railway worked alongside Network Rail and electricity providers to restore services.

Although trains are now running again, services may still be subject to delays and alterations as the timetable returns to normal. Passengers travelling through the affected area are being advised to allow an additional 40 minutes to complete their journeys while service recovery continues. This is expected until 16:00.

During the disruption, trains towards Worthing and Brighton were unable to run as scheduled, with alternative routes required. Services in the opposite direction, from Brighton and Worthing towards Barnham and Littlehampton, were also impacted.

Passengers are still encouraged to check station screens and listen for onboard announcements for the latest updates as services stabilise following the earlier disruption.
