Great Central Railway Nottingham Launches Stanford Viaduct Appeal

The Great Central Railway, Nottingham has launched an appeal to raise money for repairs to Stanford Viaduct after the structure was damaged by vandalism.

The viaduct is one of the scenic highlights of the railway, carrying passengers around 100 feet above the River Soar and offering views across the Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire countryside.

In recent years, however, the structure has been targeted by vandals. Bricks have been knocked down and stolen, heavy coping stones have been pushed into the valley below, and graffiti has been sprayed across the viaduct.

The railway has now completed a full structural survey and drawn up a repair programme aimed at restoring the viaduct and protecting it for the future.

To carry out the work, the railway needs to raise £49,000. Donations are being accepted through the Forward Fund by the East Midlands Transport Heritage Trust, the railway’s charity.

The railway says smaller regular donations from supporters can make a meaningful difference if enough people contribute, helping the repair work get underway and giving the viaduct the attention it needs.
