Major Rail Disruption After Person Hit by Train Near Luton
Rail services between Bedford railway station and Luton Airport Parkway railway station have been severely disrupted after a person was struck by a train.
Emergency services are currently working at the scene, with all railway lines through the affected section closed while the incident is dealt with. Major disruption is expected to continue until at least 12:00.
East Midlands Railway have posted on X:
We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Bedford and Luton and is disrupting our trains on our Intercity and Connect routes.
The closure is impacting all East Midlands Railway services running to and from St Pancras International, alongside multiple Thameslink routes operating between Bedford and London, Three Bridges, Horsham and Brighton, as well as services between Luton and Sutton via central London.
Passengers are being warned that trains may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes while emergency crews continue their response.
Rail operators have also cautioned that there are very limited alternative travel options available in the immediate area, with other routes expected to take significantly longer than normal.
Passengers are strongly advised to check journey planners and live travel updates before setting out as disruption is likely to continue throughout the morning.
