Person dies after being hit by train at Biggleswade during morning peak
A person has died after being struck by a train on the East Coast Main Line, leading to significant disruption during the morning peak.
Emergency services were called to Biggleswade railway station at around 7am on 22 April following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The incident occurred on the route between Hitchin and Peterborough, bringing services in the area to a halt.
Officers from the British Transport Police attended alongside paramedics, but despite their efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
British Transport Police said:
"Officers were called at around 7am today (April 22) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Biggleswade Railway Station. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
All lines were blocked while emergency crews responded, causing widespread disruption for passengers travelling through the area. Although the railway has since reopened, delays of up to 90 minutes are expected to continue until around midday as services recover.
