Person suffers life-changing injuries after being hit by train near Colchester

A person has been taken to hospital with life-changing injuries after being struck by a train near Colchester, causing major disruption to rail services.

Greater Anglia confirmed that all lines between Colchester and Witham were blocked for a time following the incident, with trains unable to run through the affected section while emergency services responded.

British Transport Police said officers and paramedics were sent to the scene on Wednesday morning after reports of a casualty on the tracks. The injured person was treated at the location before being taken to hospital.

Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries are continuing as part of routine procedures.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:

"We were called to an area of the line in Colchester at around 9.30am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers attended along with paramedics and a person was taken to hospital with life changing injuries. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

Rail passengers experienced delays and cancellations during the closure, with services resuming once the line was reopened.
