Rail Lines Blocked After Person Hit by Train Near Arlesey
Rail services across parts of Cambridgeshire were affected after a fatal incident involving a train in the early hours of Wednesday, January 28.
Disruption occurred on the route between St Neots and Hitchin following a collision at a level crossing in Arlesey, Bedfordshire, which happened at approximately 2.10am. British Transport Police (BTP) attended the scene, where one person was confirmed dead.
Police have stated that the circumstances surrounding the death are not suspicious, and documentation will now be submitted to the coroner.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:
“Police were called at around 2.10am this morning to reports of a casualty on the tracks at a level crossing in Arlesey. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Great Northern also issued a statement shortly after the incident. At 3.20am, a spokesperson said:
"It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between St Neots and Hitchin. All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident."
