BTP Hunt Witnesses After £20,000 Trackside Cable Theft in Fife

An investigation has been launched after railway cabling was stolen from a stretch of track in Fife, prompting an appeal for information from British Transport Police.

Officers were alerted at about 2.50pm on Monday 26 January when Network Rail employees discovered sections of cable had been cut and concealed close to Valleyfield Lagoons. Further inspection of the site revealed additional attempts to sever cables in the same area.

The damage caused by the incident has been estimated at around £20,000.

Detectives are now urging anyone who was in the vicinity on the evening of 25 January to come forward if they noticed suspicious vehicles or activity. Police are particularly interested in reviewing any dash cam footage captured in the area that may assist enquiries.
