Major Rail Disruption On East Coast Main Line After Overhead Line Damage Near Darlington
Damage to overhead wires between Durham and Darlington is causing disruption on the East Coast Main Line, with trains having to run at reduced speed on all lines through the affected area.
Services running between Durham and Darlington may be revised or delayed by up to 40 minutes while the issue remains in place.
Disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day.
The problem could affect the following routes and operators:
• CrossCountry between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street / Bristol Temple Meads / Plymouth / Penzance, and Glasgow Central and Plymouth, and also between Newcastle and Birmingham New Street / Reading / Plymouth
• LNER between Aberdeen and Doncaster / London Kings Cross, between Edinburgh and York / Doncaster / London Kings Cross, and also between Newcastle and London Kings Cross
• Lumo between Edinburgh / Glasgow Queen Street / Newcastle and London Kings Cross
• TransPennine Express between Newcastle and York / Liverpool Lime Street, and also between Darlington and Manchester Victoria
LNER has arranged ticket acceptance with multiple operators, which is currently expected to remain in place until the end of service.
Passengers are being advised that ticket acceptance and alternative travel arrangements can be withdrawn at short notice, and should check with their operator before travelling.
