Police confirm death following reports of casualty on Ayrshire tracks
Emergency crews were deployed to a stretch of railway in South Ayrshire on Monday afternoon following reports of a person on the tracks, an incident that later proved fatal.
British Transport Police confirmed officers were alerted to the situation in the Woodside area at around 1pm on February 3. Paramedics also attended, but despite their efforts the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have stressed there are no suspicious circumstances and that the case will be passed to the procurator fiscal in line with standard procedure.
A BTP spokesperson said:
"Officers were called at around 1pm on February 3 to reports of a casualty on the tracks in the Woodside area. Officers responded with paramedics, however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."
The incident had an immediate impact on rail services, with ScotRail warning passengers of disruption on the Ayr to Stranraer line. Customers were advised that trains on the route could face cancellations, delays or alterations while emergency services dealt with the situation.
